Words are runs of non-space characters; sentences are counted by terminal punctuation (. ! ? and their groupings); paragraphs by blank-line breaks. Reading time uses your words-per-minute setting (220 is a typical adult average) and speaking time assumes ~130 wpm. Everything runs on your device — the text is never sent anywhere.
